For the past year, stained glass artist Ben Houtcamp and I have been working towards a duo show that finally opens on Friday at Nucleus Gallery in Portland. The show is loosely based around 'souvenirs', and what that has meant to each of us. For me, it has been an opportunity to address the recent overturning of Roe vs. Wade and it is the first time I've worked representationally with glass. The body of work focuses on "The Agony and the Ecstasy" of femininity, and how contrary sentiments can be so closely intertwined. Souvenirs; the contradictory things we carry with us both physically and emotionally.
